Bring the Browns to Life !!

I was happy to move on to Phase Two with my clients the Christhif’s.  After recently helping them finish off their master and update their daughter’s room, we decided we meshed enough to tackle the Great Room …

While big and open with a beautiful coffered ceiling, the room was dark !  It lacked lighting, and I tried to bring in a lot.  Lighting, is key, and just ceiling cans does not give you the soft low light a room needs to accent the details.  We took out one the of the two matching sofas, reconfigured the space and added four new lights.  Two behind a new console table, one overhead and a bookcase single lamp.

We then moved on to color …  We had a palette of tan and brown . . and that was it. I pulled colors from one of her favorite paintings and mixed in all the warm tones of carmel, reds and oranges.  Starting with the rug as it was the biggest piece of the pie.

We chose a pattern with a small scale, and then really punched it up with other patterns in the way of a new fireside bench and round ottoman.  Just adding a few new pillows, reconfiguring and a few splashes of color added much needed color interest along with the great new lighting !

Our last touch was new window treatments in the adjoining kitchen.  Don’t you love the colors in this great fabric !  (all available at www.lucyandcompany.com)
