The Perfect Pendant

Hi.

I am a self admitted lighting freak.  Chandeliers, lamps, pendants, lamps, floor lamps, sconces, you name it.   They can make or break a room and dramatically affect the feel, especially at night.  Add a dimmer and you have perfection if you chose right one.  Now I hate with a passion lights on a fan or the single overhead flush mount (no dimmer)... bad bad bad...   I have been looking at lighting ALL day today for 3 upcoming jobs, and my heads spinning... but thought I post my all time favorites for over bar or island.

Used in a row of three or if oversized one alone.  I am all about a larger than you would think fixture.  Great place for a little drama.

Here's a little lighting eye-candy for a Sunday afternoon . . . ALL available at Lucy and Company !!

Happy Sunday !!

Kitchen's 2018 !

Hi !

I am all about kitchens lately, working on a few, including my own in Brevard, so been researching like crazy.  Emily Henderson did a wonderful post recently on the looks for 2018 - Glad to see the looks I am loving are on her must have list as well.  I admire her style.

Three of my favorite looks - the full slab wall, the wood elements and the concrete detail.  Love Love Love all these new kitchen ideas.  I am actually incorporating 2 of the 3 in my house.

Let's look at the full slab back splash . . . . How striking are these.

Finding the perfect material can be a little stressful in that the price marked on the slab is just a fraction of the cost.  Giving that slab to the fabricator for the full install price is key in the decision making.

I especially love this look with the wood and concrete mix in.

The next detail is pretty awesome as well.  The incorporated stone sink or "built in" sink.  Expensive, yes, but how gorgeous.  Pour concrete built in sinks - much more affordable . .  keep scrolling . . .

Now let's talk wood, and concrete.  I mentioned recently on Instagram and in a previous post (here) my new obsession for wood cabinets - if done correctly !  Love how they warm up a kitchen and a great alternative to the all white cabinet if incorporated with white or the look of concrete or plaster.

I am actually mixing the wood with back counter top and concrete sink in the Brevard house - cannot wait to see !!

Lastly the come back of terrazzo.  What is it ?  It's a composite materials poured in place or pre casted.  It consists of chips of marble, quartz, granite, glass poured with a chemical binding.  It was huge in the 40's.

Not for everyone - but pretty different and I am loving.

Think outside the box.

Stay tuned for my favorite kitchen lighting.

The Fancy Door !

Howdy

Who needs an average door when you can do a statement door?  I have loved working in  that element on several designs in the past year or two and now I'm a bit obsessed.  It's a chance to really add a custom look to the space and really be unique.

Take a look at just what I mean in this custom entry created by one of my favorite carpenters, Jason Wolfe.  This heavy, flat panel door was scored with a one inch groove filled with gold leaf in a modern geometric pattern.  I went one step further and added brass tie backs as knobs.  It's a show stopper on the way to the even bigger showstopper new master bathroom.

Take a look at a variety of door styles I pulled from my files . . .  upholstered, distressed wood, mirror, shagreen, art covered, hidden shiplap, and my all time favorite - black metal !

I love the mix of the grey washed wood with the mesh.. perfect for the rustic chic look !

Now I'm getting over the barn door thing a bit - but love this mix of the barn door and the distress old "french" look.

The hidden shiplap door - we did this at our office... so cool.
\

I would kill to have my closet all tripped out with doors - such a clean look.

Or cover up all the files, and junk behind there !

That's exactly what I did on this install... in 2015 - and these are on sliders.

Be creative with the details.

Back to the gorgeous wood . . .
If I were to ever build - I would incorporate a huge walk in pantry - with glass and wood - or metal doors !

Ruard Veltman design this amazing set up upholstered doors.

How about a little art covered doors !!

These last two doors are upholstered.  I installed these in 2016.  We took down the original and created new frames with upholstered "pleather" and nail headed inserts.

And this has a matching on the opposite wall.  One is a pantry - one goes to the basement - you'd never know !

Create something special !!!

Happy Friday !!

Our Photoshoot !

Hi.

I ventured out yesterday from stuck at home hell (post surgery - 2 more weeks no left leg walking), stopping by T. Reid for a clean up.  I hopped up the stairs of our new digs to meet the girls for a new group of head shots !  So fun.   Mekenzie really got some cute pics !  Take a look at my cute crew !

Course had Kate with me and she was begging for a little shot too !  Adorable.
