Belly Up to the Bar !

Hi There !

I just finished a new bar area in a client's home and have to say I LOVE IT... we have all decided that it's our favorite room in the house.  I wanted to show you my design boards and where I'm drawing my inspiration from prior to the images of the finished product !

I wanted it somewhat dark and moody so we painted most of the walls a dark grey then popped this killer grass cloth on 1 accent wall.  Two new cabinets were made - a storage piece and an actual bar trimmed in brass detail and topped with a gorgeous black granite.  I am not a granite fan but I found a slab at Walker Zanger and it was perfect (and didn't blow the budget !)  

We went back and forth a bit on the windows and lighting so it's a little different than this but love the overall feel.

When doing my "research" I pulled all sorts of bars I love and snagged a detail or two from all of my Pinterest inspiration files.  I say bring back the home bar - it will really be the talk of the party.

The main thing I knew I wanted was brass detailing.  On the woodwork and shelving . .  I asked my carpenters to use a trim with a slight grove we could gold left and while we were all there installing, Keith added that touch of brass I was really wanting.

Of course I would do this if i could - lol.  The roof bar at The Standard in NYC - mine and Keith's last trip up there.  It is perfection !  How gorgeous is this... you can even snag an idea or two from a place like this !

In prep for the party they were having and to our photo shoot and to generally my love of styling .. I had a big ole time ordering a few goodies!!

Mix some new (Crate and Barrel, West Elm, Macy's) with some vintage !

Once the tools were added I hit the ABC store... for some of the good stuff.. including my new favorite - a bottle of Pimm's.  Have you had a Pimm's cup.. sooo yummy.

Let's not forget all the other things you'll need for a good bar.  Stools, hardware and lighting.

For the somewhat "glam" bar I like the idea of brass and or lucite.  Vintage would be great !  Here's a few of my favorite styles.  Can you tell the difference from the old and new ones?

Lighting over the bar.  A chandelier or a few really cool pendants.

And hardware . . Addison Weeks a big go to for gorgeousness.

Lucite and brass are good options too.

Install of the Day !

Hi !

New builds always take a while and I have been anxiously awaiting the completion of this project !  My client, Litsa Pappas if one of my favorites.  Anyone that feeds me at every meeting jumps to the top of my list !  ha.. she's is an awesome by scratch cook so she sees me a lot.  Seriously.. she was especially fun in that she let me roll with 99% of it.  She did the build out of the "guest house / pool house" and I filled it up.  Just in time for Christmas company, but probably a little chilly to hit the pool.  Love the copper gutters.. Take a look at a guest house to die for !!

Now inside she tied it back to the upstairs bonus room.  One big open concept living, dining, bar area with a wine room.  LOVE all the light and staircase detail.

I kept it neutral with pops of pool blues.  Called in Jacob to make a few reclaimed wood doors and Keith to do a few custom art pieces.

One of my favorite elements is the backsplash on the bar.  Wood tiles - yum !

A small all white bathroom down the hall to the guest room.

And a fully functional kitchen along that hallway.  

Plenty of room outside to eat, lounge and cook a little more !  Kinda jealous here.

May have to move in if they go out of town !

Hi There !

Yep - We're hiring .  We need a new member of our daily team.   Maggie and I are exhausted !  Let me give you the low down of just what we are looking for in a new Design Assistant I am going to be completely honest in everything we need !!  We want a team player full of enthusiasm, skill and personality !! 

# 1 Energy.   We are an extremely busy interior design firm with multiple clients and projects happening at the same time.  The ability to multi task efficiently and productively is a must.  No prima-donna's at Lucy and Company.  We all get dirty from time to time and we all run errands.  We haul furniture, we pull samples, we hang art, we update files, we organize fabrics and accessories, we take out the garbage, we break down boxes, we work late, we work on the weekends if we have to !!!  I am a self proclaimed OC, neat freak who wants- at any given moment - to be able to put my hands on something so organization is huge, huge, huge !

# 2 High Taste Level.  We would call upon you to pull and shop for last minute accessories for big installs.  I will send you out to find filler pieces for photo shoots and the finishing touches for a complete space and will need to trust your style choices.

# 3 Organizational and Computer Skills.  We are Apple people - spreadsheet skills are must.  You job will also involve detail oriented work on invoicing and work orders.  You will be asked to shadow our client meetings and note all measurements, wants and specifics and order all samples as well as type up initial quotes accurately.  Mistakes are costly and while I'll give you those occasional one, after that, if the sofa you measured doesn't fit through the door  - you own it.

# 4 Interior Design Knowledge.  With our current and upcoming project demands we don't have time to go over the basics.  Please don't come to us not knowing, for example, what COM means, it's happened to me in the past and I don't want to make that mistake in my choice again!



# 5 Professionalism.   Often you will be representing myself or Maggie.  We expect you to reflect us well !


Here's what I would like.  To look over resumes during the Christmas break.  Along with your resume I would like to see just how good you are !  I would like to see your style and taste as well as your ability to create a well thought out and beautiful design inspiration board !  Below is a fictitious client and their wants, needs and thoughts.  Please pull together a three room look for us to review and then "sell" it to Maggie and myself as if we were your client.

We cannot wait to find the next member of the team and excited to see what you can do !
