The Comer's Horse Branch Hall . .

Happy Sunday . . .

As I mentioned I have an Equestrian Dream Fantasy . . my friend and client from way back when, Kathy Comer and her husband Bragg, and kids Braxton, Lydia and Walker ARE living the dream.

I took a little work break Friday and Mekenzie and I ventured down to Camden, S.C.  I knew the house was something special, but having not seen it for a while, I fell in love all over again.  Take a look at Horse Branch Hall - a true, historically registered, 1840 Greek Revival, old southern charmer.

Pictures say it all !  Thanks again Kathy for the visit.  I am coming back with the kids !

Spotlight: The Ace Hotel

while resting from some saturday evening libations in the west village, a friend suggested our next stop should be ace hotel at broadway and 29th. let me tell you, it was happenin. creative, young types filled the eclectic lobby, settling into the plush retro sofas, chatted across the 18-foot slate-topped table and ordered drinks at the bar (which happens to be an actual room taken from a park avenue apartment). we decided to go back the next day and get a private tour of the hotel. the entire building was like a crawl through plaza midwood and noda here in charlotte have a look:

the ace was envisioned by alex calderwood, wade weigher and doug herrick; originating in seattle, then expanding to portland, nyc, palm springs ca, and soon la. hey guys, how's about charlotte? although i live here, i'd book a night for a get-a-way, it would thrive here.

the ace is the creation of designers roman and williams who have created spaces for the standard hotel in nyc, and dwellings of stars like kate hudson and gwyneth paltrow, just to name a new.

the wall around the staircase is covered with art by collage artist michael anderson, and many of the rooms have murals by artists such as mint and serf.

this is one of the loft rooms which offers party or meeting spaces. they suggest filling the bathtub with ice and bottles. how fun is that?!

many of the rooms come with a fully stocked, refinished smeg refrig, blowing your typical minibar out of the water.

that was our tour guide reed who really knew his stuff and was just one of the many people there buzzing around ready and willing to assist.

much of the furniture throughout the ace is either designed by roman and williams using found objects or refurbished retro pieces. no two rooms are alike! but of course, you can see that for yourself.

amenities you don't see in many other hotels... i love it.

a view of the empire state building. not too shabby!

reed let us peer into a bunk room, extremely affordable, as are all of the rooms, surprisingly!
photo booth!

next door, rudy's barbershop supplies all the rooms' baths with their new line of bath products, adding to the local business tradition of ace hotel.

you'll never get lost!

honestly, i wanted to stay and hang there for the rest of the day. we already know where we are staying next time we are nyc!
check out ace hotel next time you're in nyc! promise you won't regret it!

Road Trip to Nashville...Part 1

as you know, beth and i went to nashville for an install this past week. when the work was done, we decided to stay an extra day to explore in that we have both been sucked into that new show with the same name.  we were convinced we'd see deacon and rayna singing as we walked past the bluebird.  we did the nashvegas night scene, boot shopping (you know who had to have a pair), the original opry house, and quaint franklin. here are some of my favorite sights!
