A Work in Progress . . .

Hey . .

"Fresh" is the word I would use for a current project I am working on with Heather McLeod.  When she came to me for help with her house . . she used a phrase that has now become the McLeod-ism at Lucy and Company . . . "let me noodle on it."  It's appropriate for many-a conversation amongst us girls now . .  Heather's house did not fit her bubbly and cute personality, the time had come to brighten and fun it up.  While I rarely paint first, in this case we just couldn't stand it - so we painted everything a nice bright white and soothing cool pale gray, two colors that go with most anything but definitely work with the look we knew we wanted to go with.

She wanted pops of color and kept referring back to "Kate Spade."  She loved the rose image on the walls of their stores and she love the mix in of  black and white . . .  Rather than having her house look like a Kate Spade showroom (which frankly would have been fabulous) . . . I found this image as my inspiration for her Foyer, and that's were I started - right at the front door.

We used Schumacher's black & white butterfly and bird paper as an accent wall in the Foyer . .
Here's Heather pointing out her front door and thinking . . .

"Hey . . . We need to paint the door .."

Yes, I know... but isn't the paper pretty !  I also love the Stark black and white stairwell carpet we added up the stairs and down the long upstairs hall.  For this look we kept all the walls white, but then pulled in a pale gray in the front Living Room and Dining Room off the Foyer.

My design board for her front Living Room.  This family and this house is not formal.  We chose to use the front room as her "Office" and a Sitting Room, but not in the traditional way.  Her desk is a unique Dining Table paired with an large ottoman doubling as seating for "coffee talk" with visitors.  We recovered a pair of chairs and added a hide to define the conversation space.  Heather love my "Chair of the Day" so I ordered one for her . . it's perfect.  I had my carpenter make a long storage piece reminiscent of a style I designed for a girl's room about a year ago.  Different application .  . totally works.  We are added two large lamps and a busy and sentimental grouping of art and family photos !

We took the black and white into the powder room with this paper, and added an odd but cool fixture and mirror.

Now, if we could just get our hands on Lulu Dk's amazing piece for the upcoming Family Room !!

This is the direction I would go in their family room . . let's see if she's game?

So Kate Spade... thanks for the color inspiration !

Happy Day

Design Crush . . . Nama Rococo

Hi . . .

Love wallpaper?  I do - can't get enough of it.  I cover accent walls, cover canvas, cover ceilings, cover entire rooms . . . I have been following the designs of artist Karen Combs of Nama Rococo for a while - with French Dot being my all time favorite.  She has introduced a new pattern . . . but let me catch you up on what turned me on in the first place. . .

So organic and free flowing, they call their look "Bohemian Minimalism"  and they say their  images are inspired by "60's soul and pop music posters, French romantic, and Chinese scroll.  Created and produced in her Hudson Valley studio . . not Europe,  not Manhattan, not the West Coast - shows good design is truly everywhere !!

Love her whimsical dots, squiggles and pops of sophisticated color - all hand painted and hand printed.
Not ready for a room full . . . try a large framed piece !

Enjoy  . . .

Their new introduction . . . "Amsterdam"

"Inspired by the rooflines  of Dutch 18th Century canal houses and the songs of David Bowie.  Brave, bold and free.   Robust with the delicate."  Available in 5 colors . . .

 . . .  and "Shuboes."

Pretty Fab !

Still Loving Lavender !

Hey There . . .

Orange and lavender . . . a color combination I have always loved.  I came across a few new inspirations combining the two that I thought I'd share in the hopes you will ponder the combination too..  I still love the lavender grass cloth in my family room with the pop of orange in the accessories - but always looking to pump it up and add to . . . I found these images to add to my thought process !

Art by artist Neo Nakazawa - kind of love it . . .

Becca Altwood, fellow blogger of "extraordinarywonders.com" is a lover of the combination as well and she pulled the perfect swatches of the perfect color to mix in.

While digging into my pinterest boards I came across past finds showing just how beautiful these hue's are together.

Design by Lily Bunn Weekes

Lily Buun Weekes used the same Phillip Jeffries grass cloth I used in my den . . and mixed in a little Madeline Weinrib.  Her collection of rugs and fabric are all to die for.  Check them out all together . .   I added a little Quardrille to the mix

The white walls with just a pop of lavender is all you need sometimes . .  this chair or maybe the sofa below would do the trick

Gotta say . . .  in love with this Giambattista Valli Dress - and all that goes with.  A mere $7,739.  Tunic also available at Bergdorf's (on sale !) $776.00

This room, featured in the  Maison de Luxe Show house last year in Beverly Hills, designed by Jamie Drake . . . so yum

A Little Neon, a Little Debbie . . . All Lucy . . . .

Happy Birthday Debbie Harry . . . Hard to believe my 80's punk rock idol -  the lead singer of Blondie turned 67 today in Miami.  Where has the time gone . .

Andy Warhol 1980

Lucy saw me post this and said ... A. "Who is Blondie" and B. I love the neon green!  Ok, she needs a lesson on real music, and neon . . hum.  Not exactly my favorite, but she loves it.  Would paint her room that color if I let her, and that's a big, fat no.  Her neon green socks and neon green disc (for disc golf - a new "thing" around this house) is about all the neon I can handle.

So neon made its re-appearance from the 80's last year, briefly.   It appeared on the runways - Michael Kors - as far as I can remember - but he does most everything well, neon included.

A little goes a . . .   l - o - n -  g . . .  way.  Here's my opinion on neon. Small dollops . . . maybe a small purse, or keds.

Nails, sure . . . that I love.  A tan helps, helps a lot !

Cool boots . . . love too.

Fabric . . . this is about the only one I love . . . of course Designer's Guild . . . I could work with that for sure !

Furniture - from the Contemporary Furniture Show . . . a chair . .  sure.. one only please, not a room full.

I pulled together a few juicy citrus, "neon" accessories I could go for . . .

1. Cleobella Cantina Medium Bag available here;  2. Tory Burch Aline Flat's available here; 3. La Mer Watches available here; 4.   Strappy Top Shop Sandals available here;  5.  Fluoro Satchel available here;

And, yeah . . . she looks pretty good !

Ok, really good.  I think I actually had a neon yellow bathing suit in the 80's, but don't remember it looking like this.

And here's Mr. Kors . . . like I said . .  can do no wrong !

There isn't much he can't make glamorous . . .

So happy birthday Debbie Harry, and Lucy . . . this is all for you !
