Setting or Rising?

Hi There

If you were at the beach, this past 4th, and dodged Hurricane Arthur you probably still caught a brooding sky, a grey sky, and foggy sky, as well as a pretty sunset or rise with all the activity up in the clouds.  Was it ombre?

 [äm′brā′, äm brā′] adjective shaded or graduated in tone, said of a color.

Hot in the design world, graduated tone in color has made an appearance in wall paper, fabric and has been around in hair color for a while now.  Some of my favorite vendors have created unique patterns and colors in this venue and I have loving them all !  Back in May, Calico introduced  a new line of papers and showed them at ICFF.

Gorgeous.  A sun setting, a night falling, the beach horizon.  Nature inspired, calming relaxing.

I am envisioning my future beach house with such a paper in the main living space and a few misty art pieces mixed together in a near by room (I can feel the calm).

I follow a beautiful blog by Erika Raxworthy.  Baker, stylist, photographer., writer.  Her blog is stunning, and gives a new meaning the the phrase "its a good thing." I was most impressed with a post she did on a recent trip to San Francisco.  She captured it in such a stunning way on those misty days you often see while out there.

Another misty, ombre favorite of mine is Eskayel Studio.  Fabric and wall paper, rugs and decorative items  are all on their list of offerings.  I has used their designs in a couple of my project (the newest being our own offices, stay tuned).  Most of their prints and papers have a tribal feel which I love, but all have a soft, shadow, gradation look to them.  Their palette (at the moment) is primarily pastel, all are gorgeous. 

Designers Guild always have something special to bring to the table.  These walls papers and fabrics come such such beautiful color ways.

Install of the Day !

Hey !!

Happy Friday, and happy the week is coming to an end.  It's been install filled for the past two weeks.  We are ending on a high note with this install that I finished yesterday.  I love this space for so many reasons, but the main one being all the details !  There are so many little things in this room and when  seen all together give it so much personality and thoughtfulness.  My client Olivia and her mom Laura came to me not too far back requesting a complete space including her bathroom.  Olivia showed me a color to get the ball rolling.  Wedgewood blue (with a dose of pink).  Another thing she loved, were things tactile, specifically "stuffed animal" soft.  I took those requests and came up with an overall design that mixed the blue with doses of "shades of red, pink and a splash of purple." The texture came in in the form of a sheepskin, and different furniture finishes, wall paper, art and multiple fabrics.

We installed yesterday, and I give a big shout out to the Webb Company, those boys had some heavy, heavy pieces to hoof up the stairs !

Also could not have pulled this off without Amy Belden and her amazing work on the very detailed, custom window and duvet, Ashely Mullis for the paper that started it all, and of course Keith for two large scale art pieces that also pulled it all together.  Chris Havey did an amazing job in the adjoining bathroom with a new custom cabinet, and killer tile work . . .

Hot off the Floral Press !

Hey There. . 

Charlotte Home and Garden hit the stands recently. Be sure and get your copy . . Loved the images Peter Taylor took of a room I installed for Taylor Cheifetz.  The room focused on the gorgeous floral fabric I chose for the windows, and then pulled from for those colors to fill the room.  I was reading my copy and there was an great story about Liz and Jimmy Foster's Dilworth home.  I pass this house every day on the way to my office and have always loved this curbside beauty.  After reading the story, I am finding myself wanted to creep in their driveway and take a closer look.  So beautiful.  

I snagged a few images (photography by Logan Cyrus) from Charlotte Magazine's Home and Garden, September 2013 issue of the Foster home, and added a few images of Taylor's inspiration fabric. I am having a floral love affair at the moment !

Gorgeous from a distance, when the Foster's purchased the home in 1996, it was a "rescue mission and looked like a haunted house," said Liz.  This retired interior design (but once a designer, always a designer as far as I am concerned...) moved her attention to the landscaping after a year long interior renovation.  She considered the grounds, despite their sad shape, something that should be "beautiful and robust."  She worked with Brian Zimmerman to create a plan for the garden.  They approached each section of the yard as it's own unique space - which any interior designer would !  Now each exterior "room" is filled with blooming floral and herbs, bushes and graceful trees.  Like an English Garden, spilling into the pool area, over gates, pots, steps, walkways and the gazebo where their younger daughter was married.

I wanted the punch of color and pattern when I did Taylor's room and this fabric did the trick.
