Install of the Day !

Hi !

Like I mentioned.. Maggie's been busy.  Not only did she load a headboard in her Jeep and drive it up to one of her biggest client's in Richmond, Virginia last week (#gettingitdone), she finished off and with Mekenzie, shot a couple of her latest projects.  I'll let her take over here...

We all know I love a neutral color pallet.. especially black and white. After getting to know this client
pretty well through the design process on the first floor, I knew I wanted the color scheme to stay neutral upstairs as well.. while bringing in some fun whimsical prints.

Starting off in the master, I used a dark graphic wallpaper to really anchor the room. This master bedroom is a bit long and narrow, it needed something to break up all of the grey walls and create a focal point. Mixing in some darker accents with the dip dyed curtains and the black bedside tables also helped ground this space, it defiantly needed some weight and depth. Mixing in some cream tones helped bring in warmth to the bedroom. When using a black and white, it can sometimes come across cold. Make sure you throw in some texture and warmer tones throughout the space to cut through the sharp contrast.

We then moved onto the nursery, I loved creating this space. They are expecting twins (any day now) a girl and a boy, so keeping this room neutral was a must. We both loved the whimsical bird wallpaper, mixed with the graphic rug which gave it a little punch. The vibe in here is calming and soothing (with a little boho ) which was exactly what we were going for..

Install of the Day !

Hey Ho . . 

One of our least complicated installs this month was the teen room of Emma Malak.  Sweetest girl ever.  Emma needed an update.  We all wanted purple, but not an abundance of it, just touches here and there.   With the exception of a few things to keep:  the side chests and framed sentimental baby clothes,  we had a clean slate to work with.  Maggie and I working together on this creating a few different directions for Emma to choose from.  Take a look . . . it was all about narrowing down the wall paper and rug.

Option Three was our winner.  The rug gave us a fit being back ordered forever, so we changed that and it actually was a happy problem.  Love our other option.  Take a look at the finished product.

We chose this grey on grey graphic accent paper, painting the two side walls a pale grey.  The added purple stripe behind the desk accented the big mirror and Emma's framed baby clothes.  A new upholstered bed and cornices have lasting power in pale grey as well.  New, easy to function blinds in a warmer color keep the room from being too light.

Also found the perfect art piece to compliment the rug.

A new tufted lavender chair and pouf and chandelier add a bit of elegance.

One of my favorite last minute ideas was adding cork to the back of all the doors.  We then painted it the deep lavender.  Emma can not only hang her favorite magazine pics, but also her jewelery.

The baby clothes could seem too sweet for this more grown up space, but we all felt they worked perfectly when paired with the strong graphic stripe.

A big two day hustle to paint, paper and deliver all the furniture, while Emma was away for a few days was so worth it when I saw her surprised face coming in the room !!!!

Install of the Day !

Howdy . . .

The last of my camp kids, Finn Dyer has a new room!  We added a last minute sofa and desk yesterday to what we installed last week and filtered in the art and accessories.  Ready for a larger bed and ready to lose the little boy, blue walls, we gave his space a look with an industrial vibe.

 Taking my inspiration from a framed poster he loved, we brought in pieces he can grow with, all with an industrial, hip, Beastie Boys vibe.

We changed a few things a little in the process, we took out the window seat/storage underneath idea, and added a sofa instead of the dresser.  With a large closet, we added a simple dresser in there.   During the design process, my client wanted to change to a loft bed,  I had to talk her out of it.  Her reason, overnights.

 Now I love a cool loft bed, but I do feel they lose their appeal over time.  They are a pain to make up and down the road you will probably want to get rid of it, so why waste the money.  In a way to address the sleep over issue, I suggested adding inexpensive day beds with trundles in the nearby playroom (pics to come).  Placing them in the shape of a sectional you get the look of a sofa, but the function of two beds.  With the added plus of two trundles underneath you gain 4 places to sleep for a fun boy overnight.  Problem solved and the original design stays in tack.  Adding the sofa in the room as oppose to the dresser, Finn's look is even more grown up and multi-functional and a friend can crash on that!

 In this design I actually started with the bed and worked off that as far as the look.  This platform bed had a lower profile and a cool feature, the storage underneath. It has a similar look to the platform bed I am proposing in my new beachy inspired boys room (here) yet with a lower headboard and that added storage.  Always on a mission to do something different for everyone.

Take a look at a few of the details in the space.

 The wood and wire shelf is big and on wheels.  Great industrial look.

Always love a metal letter mixed in with the art.  Keith's piece also works perfectly in the room !

We hung a few vintage albums in simple Ikea frames.

And my favorite piece in the room.  Killer lamp!

I think I have a happy kid !
