Hi There !
Sarah Skelton, moved back in her new Cotswald home just in time for Christmas, barely. She decided to renovate both bathrooms causing quite the dusty, plumbing mess in early November and happy to say the contractors cleared out just in time for us to come in and install her family room.
This young couple purchased a new ranch style home they are, room by room, renovating. It's a work in progress and as each room comes to life, the better and better it becomes. They were smart to do those bathrooms first, they needed it! The family room and master were next on the list.
The design plan for their family room revolved around their existing rug, which I loved. I pulled the colors - keeping it all neutral, but using pops of orange and teal, found in the rug. Our biggest hurdle was dealing with the wood paneled walls. A honey pine, I wasn't loving at all. We decided not to remove it, but simply paint it all a taupe. It's amazing what a little paint can do.
Yesterday we installed the master bedroom (Part 2. stay tuned). Mekenzie met me to shoot both spaces. Take a look at our family room re-do.
Everything new in this small space with the key elements being the sofa and chair. We invested in two nice pieces made to last and I shopped to filter in all the accessories and smaller pieces. First home and on a budget does not mean you have to just fill your space with Ikea and Target, that's for sure. I tried to get creative and hit two of my favorite places, Slate Interiors and Cotswold Marketplace for a unique pieces, then "shopped" Sarah's wedding presents and family pieces.
I even stopped by Modern Fabrics and scooped up a few fabric remnants for just the perfect pillows to add a little life and color.
Take a look at the details.
I love how clean and pulled together this room turned out. Cozy with a good mix of traditional, modern and transitional with personal family touches. Good bye to the honey pine walls !
